Common Questions:Below is a list of common questions relating how our program works. See if your questions are answered.

Q: When does Green Debt Relief begin negotiating my debt?

A: Once you have fully retained our services, your creditors will be immediately notified that you have authorized Green Debt Relief to work with them.
A successful negotiation can only occur when the funds for payment are available, which is entirely up to you. From the moment you begin your program, we will work with you to determine a debt relief strategy, based on your particular mix of creditors, the balances of each of your accounts, and other criteria as determined from your Negotiator. Your Negotiator will begin the negotiations process with your creditor once you have saved enough funds.

Q: If I miss a monthly fee payment to Green Debt Relief, will I be dropped from your program?
A: No. Simply call our Customer Service Department and we will arrange a new payment schedule over the telephone. It is understandable that circumstances may arise and we will help you get back on track with your payment schedule.

Q: How do I find out the status of negotiation on one of my accounts?
A:  Monday thru Friday from 8am - 6pm MST to speak with a representative.

Q: My monthly income varies; can I still participate in the program?
A: Yes. Our fees and payment schedule are on a client-by-client basis. We will determine an affordable and simple plan for your unique situation.

Q: Are my creditors going to continue to call me?
A: We notify your creditors of our representation and inform them that they should contact us with respect to negotiating your debt. However, if you continue to get calls, we will educate you about how to deal with them. You should also call our Customer Service Department and they will contact the creditor again to inform them of our representation and your instruction that they contact Green Debt Relief instead of you. In all cases, you should keep a log of the calls you get from creditors with respect to the debt you put into our program so you will be able to provide us the name and telephone number of the creditor(s) who continue to call you. Creditors have the right to contact you but they cannot harass you. If a collector is attempting to collect the debt his or her conduct must comply with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, which prohibits calls at certain times and places.

Q: Will my creditors continue to contact me by mail?
A: Your creditors may correspond with you by mail; however, you should immediately contact Green Debt Relief and report this correspondence. If the correspondence indicates a change in the status of your debt or an offer of a debt reduction; you should fax, e-mail or mail it in to us for review.

Q: Will this program have a negative effect on my credit?
A: Your credit report will reflect derogatory information, including increased balances due to any interest and fees added to your accounts and non-payment of debt, which will have an adverse affect on your credit score. However, once negotiated and paid, your creditors will report the accounts as "settled" or "paid in full" or something similar.

Q: Why should I use Green Debt Relief to negotiate my debts as opposed to handling it myself?

A: You could deal with your creditors on your own but our team has extensive experience negotiating debt and working with creditors. Our Negotiators have knowledge of the debt negotiation and debt collection industries and understand the different stages of collections. In addition, we deal with hundreds of accounts so we are on top of industry trends and the collection strategies being used by particular creditors. This knowledge is used to benefit our clients, for instance, sometimes timing is everything and a collector might not be authorized to offer a good balance reduction one month but will tell us he is authorized to offer a good balance reduction in the next month. Most consumers may not be privy to this type of information.

Q: Who do I call if I have a question about the program or a problem with a creditor?
A: We educate our clients about the debt collection process, what to expect and how to handle it. You can talk directly with any account representative whenever you need to discuss a problem or concern.

Q: Do I have to include all of my accounts in the program?

A: No.

Q: How long will it take to resolve my accounts?
A: It varies on the amount of debt and number of accounts you bring into the program.

Q: How much does this program cost?
A: Our debt relief program costs are determined on an individual basis by a Green Debt Relief Consultant and you. Your monthly fee payment will be determined by what you can comfortably afford, your level of debt, income, and living expenses.

Q: What if my creditors won't negotiate and accept less than I owe?
A: There are very few circumstances where a creditor will refuse to negotiate. As with any negotiation, there are offers and counter-offers over a given time, and in the majority of cases an agreement is reached. However, because this is a negotiation and each situation is unique, we cannot guarantee a specific result.

Q: Will Green Debt Relief stop late fees and interest from accruing on my accounts?
A: Whether you are in a debt relief program or not, your creditor(s) are going to continue to charge interest on the balance of your account. Any time you are unable to make a monthly payment most creditors charge you a late fee (and perhaps other additional fees). Green Debt Relief cannot stop a creditor from continuing to add interest or late fees to an account. However, these amounts are considered in the negotiating process and our Negotiators will negotiate for the largest possible reduction of the balance due, including interest and fees.

Q: Are there tax implications?
A: Yes, although you may not necessarily owe any tax if you are insolvent. You should consult a tax professional regarding “Forgiveness of Debt” income which results when a balance owed is compromised and only a portion of the balance is required to be paid back. The amount “saved” by the consumer is the amount that may be subject to taxation. Creditors may report this amount to the IRS on Form 1099C, if this Form is issued the creditor will also forward you a copy. Green Debt Relief is not able to provide tax advice, as we are not tax professionals. Again, please contact your professional tax consultant if you have further questions.

Q: Can I get sued?
A: There is the potential that a creditor may pursue legal action against you. If this occurs you may still be able to pay a reduced amount as payment in full if you have funds available. Green Debt Relief can still attempt to negotiate your account at any time during the collection and/or legal process.

Q: Can I get legal advice from any representative of Green Debt Relief?

A: No. Green Debt Relief is not a law firm, and if you think you need advice on a legal matter, we encourage you to speak with an attorney in your state
